ruth gamble: actor, writer & farmer who fits in your pocket
I was soulfully excited to get to do another play in da Burgh, the city where I went to college and is home to some sweet long-time friends. I'm smitten with this historical little town that has a pride as deep as the city is beautiful, a dialect as unique as it hilarious, and a theatre scene that is as rich as it is loving. Thank you to the community there for your open arms and laughter-filled hearts.
As the title makes clear, there was a lot of cursing in the show. But it was also super funny and had some serious heart going on. I got to play a Puerto Rican New Yorker cocaine addict alcoholic who hit someone in the face with a stick ball bat. It was more complex than that, but all of those things are fun to say and true. I loved working on it!!! The Pittsburgh Post Gazette named the show 3rd Best Theater Production for all of 2013! And mentioned Patrick Jordan (in the first pic) as one of the Best Actors of 2013, myself as one of the Best Actresses and our five person cast as one of the Best Ensembles! That feels nice. And best of all, the other actress in the show, Daina Griffith, won Performer of the Year for her genius work in the seven plays she did this year! Read the article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette

...dark, comic and passionate... ...this whirlwind of a dark comedy does indeed have passion of Shakespearean intensity. Founder and artistic director of barebones, Patrick Jordan, plays Jackie with appealing fury and even more appealing bewilderment. Ruth Gamble is a quasi-tragic spitfire as the seriously conflicted Veronica, and Daina Michelle Griffith (who seems to be in two or three plays simultaneously these days) comes closest to tragedy as Victoria. Edwin Lee Gibson is the self-assured Ralph (the roll played on Broadway by Chris Rock; Gibson is better). We know all these and appreciate their talents. The discovery is Leandro Cano as Cousin Julio, who may enter as comic relief but develops into something more. For me, the ending has a surprising emotional kick... Maybe sad is just sweet by another name. Read the article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette ...opening with a scene of lethal toxicity thanks to Ruth Gamble (as Veronica) and Patrick Jordan (as Jackie), this barebones production starts with an H-bomb bang. Corrosive, profane, darkly funny The irony of the show is that the people who would most appreciate Guirgis' somewhat mawkish story will be the least likely to see it. Read the article in the Pittsburgh City Paper Guirgis has written smart, complicated, and at times unpredictable characters, and the barebones ensemble realizes those characters with fierce intelligence. Gamble and Griffith both succeed superbly at the difficult task of giving us a glimpse at the seed of hurt around which their characters’ tough shells have calcified. Our lil' commercial ran on the Comedy Central station in Pittsburgh which made me super happy! It also made me happy because we found out later into the play's run that strangers would hear the name of the play randomly in conversation and then mention this commercial… So, it worked!
